You may not have heard of Sherman Oaks, California, but you’ve certainly heard of The Valley (as in “Like, ohmygod!”). Sherman Oaks is a neighborhood with a population of 52,677 in the San Fernando Valley which is part of the city of Los Angeles. All of Southern California tends to be hot and dry, but here in The Valley the temperature is about 20 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than LA proper.
Many films have been set in the San Fernando Valley (Boogie Nights, The Karate Kid, E.T.) and some movies are all about the Valley (Valley Girl, 2 Days In the Valley, Down In the Valley). Several notable personalities call this place home, too, like Paula Abdul, Jennifer Aniston, and Charlie Sheen. If you’re a budding stand-up comic, you’re in luck as The Improv Trick is a local comedy club that offers improv classes.
Because so many film and TV productions are shot here, many movie studios and post-production companies make good use of the many convenient, local self-storage facilities.
Sherman Oaks Castle Park is a fun place to spend the afternoon playing miniature golf, old and new arcade games, or hitting the batting cages. Afterwards, head over to The Oaks Tavern, a local dive bar with karaoke, pool tables, and a great vibe.
